FareFree Transit Forum held with ActLA

Our next General Meeting will be devoted to a FareFree Transit Forum on Wednesday, September 15, 7-9pm, held together with ActLA.

Register here for the forum: bit.ly/FareFreeLA

Bus rides have been free to riders during the pandemic--let's make this permanent! We want to discuss the possibility of fare-free transit, what that could mean for Glendale residents, AND what we can do to make that a reality in anticipation of Metro’s upcoming 9/23 vote on the fate of fare-free transit!

Most of the cost of pubic transit is covered by public funds, so our public transit systems do not need fares from individual riders to operate. Eliminating fare collection has had these positive results:

1) Bus riders have an average income of $18K, so saving $100 on a monthly bus pass is not small change.
2) Bus rides are faster because the driver does not need to wait for passengers to pay fares in a single file through the front of the bus.
3) Riders can enter through side doors as well as the front door.
4) Buses do not waste gas idling while waiting for individual fares to be paid.
5) Fights between drivers and and passengers over paying the fares have disappeared, which makes for faster, smoother, and more pleasant rides for all.
6) Fare-free transit encourages people to use public transit instead of driving.
